Say Auf Wiedersehen to Oktoberfest with one last weekend-long event at Dat Dog!
October 24th and 25th marks the 2nd Annual Oktoberfest Weekend at Dat Dog Magazine featuring live music, Abita Oktoberfest beer on tap, German Bratwurst dogs and our famous Canine Costume Contest.
Friday’s festivities include: live music by Miss Claudia and Her Bier Gartners from 6-9pm in the authentic European beer garden, the once-a-year Oktoberfest German-style Dog (lightly smoked, thinly ground pork sausage with sauerkraut, diced onions and yellow mustard) and $1 off all German beers (there’s 5 of them!)
The festivities continue Saturday at 6pm with the famous Canine Costume Contest featuring hilarious categories such as ugliest dog and best matching owner/dog costume. Local celebrity guest judges will award winners with Dat Dog gift certificates and other prizes.
Many of you will already know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And by now, you’ll probably also be familiar with the fact that we love to support a good cause. That’s why, throughout October, our 3 stores will be offering the the following specials throughout the whole month to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation in New Orleans. One dollar from each item sold will go to the foundation’s ongoing efforts to fight breast cancer in the New Orleans area.

Dat Dog on Freret’s Second Annual Devon Walker Day will be taking place tomorrow and will be raising funds for the Devon Walker Fund, to assist with care and medical attention for former Tulane University Safety Devon Walker, who sustained a severe spinal cord injury in 2012. Our first Devon Walker held in August 2013 was a massive success, come along and help make this one even better!!
We’ll have a special ‘Devon Walker Dog’ on the day where $1 from each dog sold will go to the Devon Walker fund. We would also welcome any additional donations throughout the day. Devon will be heading in himself during the afternoon so make sure you come say hi!
This Week is the Dress Red Ride!! So take this chance to jump on your bikes and Dress in Red!
The ride starts here, with us at our Freret location! We’ll have 10% off food and Happy Hour drink prices for all you guys taking part. Make sure to arrive in plenty of time if you want to get food though. The ride will begin around 7:45, and they will have a tracker running for those who are late or want to catch up mid-way.
The afterparty this week will be at Grits, where longtime rider Jason Fraude has set up some food and drink specials.

Louisiana Got to be Hot Dog Our juicy Louisiana Hot Sausage smothered with chili, pico de gallo, ketchup and creole mustard, nestled in one of our now famous buns.
Cilantro Cucumber Cooler is our cocktail of the week. This incredibly summery, fresh cocktail is made with cucumber slices, cilantro (obvs) and simple syrup. It’s then shaken with ice and Cathead vodka and strained over ice. Mmmmmmmm…
We’ve just been told that Map Quest did a state by state award for best hot dogs in America. And guess what?! Dat Dog is Louisiana’s number one! Yahoooooooo!

On Wednesday, July 23, Dat Dog will celebrate National Hot Dog Day by donating $1.00 from the sale of its original American Dream Dog to New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity. The American Dream Dog cost $7.99 and is a classic beef American Dog topped with cheese, dill relish and yellow mustard.
Take a bite of The American Dream at any of the 3 Dat Dog Locations - 5030 Freret, 3336 Magazine and 601 Frenchmen - and help New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity continue to provide local, affordable home ownership.

This event is of course free admission. Son of a Saint enhances the lives of fatherless boys and inspires mentorship. Funds for this incredibly worthy cause will be raised by adding a dollar to our dog special on the day. But if you wanted to give a little extra you will also be able to donate at the register.
